Our Story is Our Power
Nuestra Historia es Nuestro Poder
In May of 2020, I worked on this amazing mural with a dear friend and incredible artist, Ricardo Castillon (@TheGreatCastby) in the heart of Laredo, Tx. His design tells the story of a community with a rich history that goes back centuries. The mural works as a timeline- beneath each of the seven flags that have once flown over Laredo, lies a panel depicting a scene from that period. Emerging from the left, a flowing river of historical figures and common folk streams all the way into modern times. The titles above rest on the body of the ancient Aztec serpent, Quetzalcoatl, as it stretches from beginning to end. Symbolizing our deeply-rooted connection to Mexican heritage. Surrounded by prickly pear cactus, the story of Laredo is complex and fascinating.
Ricky and I believe in the power and importance of telling these stories in order for our community to strive forward. As fans of history, we’re grateful to share this with the people of Laredo and all who visit it.
